Information About RDKShort HistoryThe Home Church Movement (abbreviated RDK from its polish acronym) is the spouse/family oriented movement of lay people in the Catholic Church. It combines the charismatic ideas of two movements: the Light - Life Movement and the international movement of Catholic spouses, Epuipes Notre Dame, which formed in France in 1938 and was initiated by a few married couples together with Fr. Henri Caffarel. The accomplishment and experience of both of these movements as well as the teaching of The Vatican Council II regarding marriage and family, in 1973 inspired Fr. Franciszek Blachnicki (1921-1987) - the founder of The Light - Life Movement - to begin working with families and to create a community of families, which he ultimately called The Home Church Movement. RDK is present in Chicago since 1995. The first groups formed in the Holy Trinity parish. Currently, there are twelve groups associated with various parishes on the North and South sides of Chicago. With God s help, there are still more groups being formed. Who We AreRDK is a movement of families whose main goal is increasing the spirituality of married couples. The members strive for development of closeness to God while maintaining the unity of their marriage and family. The Movement s objective is to aid the couples who are joined by Sacramental marriage in building unity of the marriage which is the best environment for raising children in the spirit of Christian faith. The married couples which belong to RDK believe that the grace of God they received during the Sacrament of Marriage is not a one time dose which will have life long effect on buffering them from problems of daily living. But, rather it is the constant presence of God in their lives. In order to recognize and appreciate this presence, the enduring effort of self improvement and the support of others who believe alike are essential. That is the reason why the community of married couples is vital to the existence of RDK. The community is based on the hierarchy of values in which God takes the first place and becomes the center of every marital union. This is the only foundation upon which it is possible to build a good, happy marriage and family and the only context in which to take care of life s business. RDK's CharacteristicsThe recognition of God in our life is not a privilege given to some, but rather mandates a conscious effort of one s will and constant self improvement. Similarly, the unity in marriage and family is also not a one time prize, but requires diligent effort and consistent work of both of the spouses. For the purpose of building such a unity between spouses, RDK proposes the following elements of formation, which are called responsibilities:
The implementation of these elements occurs in the marriage and requires both the husband and the wife to undertake the daily effort and to aide each other in the road to Christ. On the road to Christ the couple receives help also from other couples who form a small formational group called the Circle. One Circle consists of 4 to 6 married couples and a priest who serves as a spiritual advisor. The meetings of the Circle take place once per month at a home of particular couples on a rotating basis. The purpose of the meeting is to enrich each other with the experience of Christ and in sharing of experiences of improving oneself as well as realizing the responsibilities of the movement. It is also an opportunity to share with one another the successes and hardships of married life, to obtain advice from others, and to find solutions to pending issues. Finally, the purpose of the meetings is to develop friendship between the couples. That is the only way to build a spiritual community of people in journeying to God. The formation of couples is further enriched when they participate in a retreat. Throughout the year there are also other chances to meet together during prayer meetings and other events. RDK - A Part of the ChurchRDK is a movement of lay people, therefore the organizational responsibilities as well as responsibility for the spiritual progress rest upon lay people (leadership couples), who are supported in their ministry by priests. A priest is the guarantor of continuing unity of the Movement with the Church and Its hierarchy and takes vigilant responsibility to protect the unity with and faithfulness to the Church s teachings. The married couples of RDK wish to popularize the spirituality of marriage understood as a couple s journey to God. They wish to serve other couples in their journey of deepening their Christian maturity. They with to aid families who are in danger of falling apart and protect married couples from living next to each other as strangers. The married couples of RDK wish to participate actively in the life of their local Church (parish and diocese) and in the mission of the Catholic Church, especially in the work of evangelization. Some couples work in family ministry. Others get involved in marriage and family workshops, by leading natural family planning workshops, serving as counselors well positioned for discussion with adolescents regarding marriage and family life, and becoming spiritual adopted parents of the unborn. Others still participate in parish councils and charitable foundations, etc. More InformationCouples interested in deepening their relationship via the methods proposed by RDK are invited to contact by email at info@domowykosciol.org.
